Soup cans: the perfect Pilates prop?

Have you ever looked in your pantry and wondered, “can I use my food for exercise”? No? Well, that’s okay.

We’re here to tell you that soup cans are one of the best Pilates props out there!

Soup cans are the perfect weight for beginners, as well as being easy to hold, for most of us. Let’s have a look at some of the benefits of Pilates with soup cans (or other weights) and some of the exercises that you can do with your food!

Muscle Toning

A big benefit of using soup cans in a Pilates class is that it aids muscle toning! Depending on the specific exercise, the cans will provide extra resistance and support for many upper-body and core exercises.

Core Awareness

Soup cans can be used to improve the stability of your shoulders, and help you to feel their connection to your core.

Variety

It’s easy to become bored with the same old exercises… Adding soup cans as weights adds variety to your Pilates class, and gets you thinking about the exercises in a whole new way!

Our Favourite Soup Can Exercises:

  • Hundreds

  • The Roll Up

  • Teaser

Using soup cans with all of these exercises will both challenge and support you in a different way… Why not join a props class with us, and give them a try?
