Setting up your home studio.

Pilates is a great form of exercise if you’re looking to strengthen, tone and improve flexibility with minimal stress on the body. It offers a wide range of benefits, both physical and mental, including better posture, injury prevention and reduced stress and depression.

Setting up a simple home Pilates studio allows you to practice in your own time, or join our online classes in a space that feels right for you.

A Simple Home Studio

All you really need is an exercise mat and enough space to stretch out. However, to really enhance your home Pilates experience, there are a number of things you can do:

  • If you can, dedicate a room to your practice.

  • Create a calm, relaxing atmosphere

  • Reduce clutter.

  • Try to make the most of natural light.

  • If you enjoy it, put on some music (head over to our Soundscape for some playlist ideas).

Pilates Equipment

As you develop your Pilates expertise, you may wish to add in some equipment. Using equipment adds an extra dimension to your workout with greater resistance. It also challenges you to concentrate more on the movements as you get used to the additional challenges.

At home, you will find a lot of household items that can be used, which don’t require the purchase of specialized equipment:

  • Cans of beans/soup cans.

  • A chair.

  • Towels.

  • Tennis balls.

Other equipment that can serve you, which you might not have lying around, includes:

  • A stability ball.

  • Smaller, toning balls.

  • Ankle weights.

  • Resistance bands.

  • A magic circle.

Ultimately, you need to find the right balance for you. At Acuity Pilates Studio, we feature classes that need no equipment, and we always encourage you to work within your range: we’ll push you, but only as far as you can tolerate. Your home studio is your space.

Your Space. Your Community. Your Studio.
